Item code: 19V7-766

A set of four vintage and iconic Kaare Klint (1888 - 1954) “Kirkestol” Church Chairs in solid oak.

Kaare Klint, recognized as the father of modern Danish furniture design, helped establish the Department
of Furniture Design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1924.

As associate professor and later professor, Klint taught many of Denmark’s future famous designers such as Børge Mogensen, Arne Jacobsen, Poul Kjærholm and Ole Wanscher.

The “Kirkestol” Church Chair, originally designed for the Bethlehem Church, which coincidentally was the first Danish church to use chairs instead of benches. However, it is in the Grundtvig’s church with the chairs appearance, that cemented its iconic status. Both the Bethlehem and Grundtvig’s churches were designed by renowned architect Peder Vilhelm Jensen Klint, Kaare Klint’s father. After Jensen Klint’s death in 1930, Kaare Klint completed the construction of both churches.

Designed in 1936, the Church Chair is a beautiful example of Danish craftsmanship at its finest, and a true classic with its timeless design.
